History of marrocan Zellige
The art of zellige appeared in Morocco more than a millennium ago. Of Roman inspiration, it is one of the jewels of Moorish and Berber architecture.
Historical use is the ornament of palaces, spiritual places, hammams and fountains.
The geometric and colorful assembly of the tesserae, these small pieces of enamelled terracotta cut into different shapes, is done according to complex patterns and with spiritual meanings.
Symbolically, the union of colors, shapes and rhythms pays homage to the beauty of the universe and invites meditation.
