PREPARATION

The handcrafted zellige has the particularity of having various shades on the same color reference. Indeed, the wood-fired oven cooks the enamel unevenly. It is therefore important to mix the zelliges by opening all the boxes and drawing the tiles from each of them.

In order to guarantee the adhesion of the tile adhesive, immerse the tiles in a basin of water to remove the layer of dust on the back of the zelliges.

If the installation is planned on painted walls, or Placoplatre partitions, apply a coat of primer and let dry for about 45 minutes.

INSTALLING

Prefer white flex tile adhesive.

Double gluing necessary for the walls (on the tile and on the support).

Edge-to-edge or side-to-side installation without spacers. Since the tiles are not straight, this installation will however leave fine spaces between them which will be filled by grouting.

Be sure to obtain the flattest possible surface, in fact the zelliges have a slight variation in thickness which you can erase by adjusting the thickness of the glue.

NB: the clay which is the raw material of the zellige may contain some traces of lime (small white grains) which pierce the enamel. It is tolerated up to 5% of the total quantity of zelliges. Reserve these squares for your cuts.

GROUTING

Apply your joint (epoxy for bathrooms) as liquid as possible to penetrate the fine interstices.

Pour le bejmat naturel et les zelliges  de teintes naturels bruts appliquez une solution hydrofuge avant le jointoiement.
